Skipton Girls make it Hat Trick of Wins

Skipton Swimming Club were continuing to show that they are developing into one of the premier clubs in the Yorkshire Counties, as the 11 and 12 year old girls followed in the footsteps of the 2004 and 2005 teams by taking the Bradford and District 4 x 50m freestyle team relay event for the third year in succession. The team of Alice Shearer, Rachael Scrivin, Kelly Bucke and Abi Kerr were over three seconds ahead of Bingley and Huddersfield, but were unable to overhaul the record time set by the Skipton team last year. Alice Shearer was also continuing to display all round ability by winning the Girls 12 yrs 4 x 25m Individual Medley, whilst Rachael Scrivin was also in the medals with third in the Girls 11 yrs 4 x 25m Individual Medley and Kelly Bucke finishing close behind in fourth. Narrowly missing out on a trophy and finishing a close second was the consistent Hazel Dawson in the 15 yrs and over 100m freestyle and Max Barker was again making it into the finals with a fifth place and a personal best time in the boys 50m backstroke.

On the whole it was a quiet evening for the individual swimmers from Skipton, with many of the Youth and Senior swimmers concentrating on final preparations for the Sheffield Open Meet, to be held over the Bank Holiday Weekend, and also the Junior Age Group swimmers putting in extra training for the forthcoming North Eastern Region Championships at Sheffield in early June. These events are the last opportunity for the swimmers to gain qualifying times for the National Championships in August and with four swimmers already destined for the Championships, it is with great anticipation we look forward to the next three weekends of competition.
