A fledgling masters squad competed at the Rotherham Metro
ASC Open Masters Meet held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on Sunday 22nd
January, under the wing of Coach, Julie Horbury.
The squad swam magnificently, Andrew Walker brought home a
Gold and two Bronze Medals in his début in the 45-49 years category for 50m
Butterfly (Time 32.35 seconds), 50m Freestyle (Time 28.51 seconds) and 100m
Freestyle (Time 1 minute 06.55 seconds) respectively. The Men’s 200m Freestyle
Relay Team (James Ramsden, Gareth Wilkins, Andrew Walker, John Pickles) gained
a silver medal in a time of 1 minute 57.48 seconds. The Mixed Relay Team (James
Ramsden, Julie Horbury, Jane Collyer and Garath Wilkins) came fourth in a time
of 2 minutes 13.94 seconds. Gareth Wilkins came sixth in the 25-29 years
category for the 50m Freestyle (31.77 seconds). John Pickles came second in the
35-39 years category for the 200m Freestyle (2 minutes 25.64 seconds) and third
in the 200m Individual Medley (2 minutes 49.23 seconds).
Karen Driver, Duty Manager at the Craven Swimming Pool, swam
powerfully for Colne SC, gaining personal best times to come first in the 200m
& 400m Freestyle events (2:26.08 & 5:04.11 respectively), second in the
400m Individual Medley & 100m Breaststroke events (6:02.11 & 1:29.23
respectively), and third in the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle
events (2:52.94 & 1:10.00 respectively).
